Separation Anxiety Solutions

Helping dogs who can't handle being alone. Sub-threshold training, departure cues, and when medication helps.

Your dog isn't being 'naughty' when you leave. They're panicking. Punishing panic is like yelling at someone for having a panic attack.

Separation anxiety is panic, not disobedience. Sub-threshold training: find the duration your dog can handle alone (30 seconds? 5 minutes?). Never exceed it. Every 'successful' alone session builds confidence.

Departure cues are things you do before leaving (putting on shoes, grabbing keys). Practice these WITHOUT leaving. Put shoes on, walk around, take them off. 20+ reps/day. This uncouples the cue from the panic.
